The game of life

"We are not here to make choices...We are here to understand the choices we have made."

This was the sentence that struck me the most when I watched last weekend's movie. I thought about how I can relate this sentence, and I understand now. You see, there are many many stories about life. One kind describes life as a game.

We decide what obstacles or what enemies we will face at what time in the game, and we decide where we will be born, to who we will be born, when we will be born. Its like playing a game. You decide whether you want to be a warrior or mage or etc. The first choice you make may be a warrior, and then you play it, and after a while you get tired of it. Then maybe next time you will choose to be a mage, or something else.

Life isn't totally without choices though. Imagine that you are playing Halo. You have to defeat Tartarus at the end of the game no matter what. You have many chances to kill him, and you have to figure out how. You have to defeat the prophet. But, depending on the little choices you make (arming yourself with the right weapon, working with your partner (friends in life) etc etc) you may get to the stage easily and quickly or you might have to 'die' a few times. So the big decisions may have already been made, but its your small ones that decide how you are going to complete the level.

Its the same with problems. God will continue to throw at you similar problems until you learn to deal with it, or kill it and go on the the next level.

So maybe we have already planned out our life. But to play this game, you will have to forget. Its not fun otherwise. How can life be fun if you know all the cheatcodes or what is going to happen? You have to discover the cheatcodes yourself. And there are plenty of them to help you go on. Plus there are also hidden easter eggs like the scarab gun, and if you can find life's easter egg, you can become very powerful. Just don't shoot yourself by becoming overconfident.

Or your partner either.
